The Association of Chief Compliance Officers of Banks in Nigeria (ACCOBIN) successfully held its July 2026 CCO and General Meeting on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Colonades Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos. The impactful session was proudly hosted by Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) Nigeria Limited and brought together chief compliance officers, financial industry leaders, and key regulatory stakeholders.
The Vice-Chairman, Abigail Duopama-Obomanu, presided over the session, formally welcoming attendees and expressing sincere appreciation to RMB Nigeria Limited for facilitating the event. She introduced Mr. Taiwo Gabriel, the host bank’s Executive Director of Risk Management and Executive Compliance Officer, to deliver the Chief Host address. Following her opening remarks, the general assembly officially adopted the day’s strategic agenda and the minutes from the previous May 2026 gathering.
In his address, Mr. Taiwo Gabriel emphasized that compliance has evolved from a defensive control unit into a strategic enabler of sustainable business growth and public confidence. He outlined critical industry priorities, including accelerating investments in artificial intelligence, deepening cross-institutional collaboration to counter financial crime, and scaling up talent development. He concluded by noting that robust compliance frameworks are vital investments, as the reputational and financial costs of non-compliance remain far too expensive.
The meeting concluded with a robust interactive dialogue session featuring multiple law enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the NDLEA, NPF-FCID, ICPC, and NIBSS. Stakeholders also received key operational updates from the Compliance Institute, Nigeria (CIN) regarding its newly elected Governing Council and from Pattison Consulting Limited concerning the National Risk Assessment framework.
